Shawn Porter

Life Turned Around

When Shawn came to Mission SOLANO he was 21 years old, homeless and addicted to street drugs.

He tried the New Life Program a few times but his addiction had a greater control over his life than the desire to change.

As he turned 23 the problems were only getting worse, he had left the program again, was using drugs again and had gotten his girlfriend pregnant.

The desire to be a good father and husband was finally enough to bring Shawn back to us and ask to try the program again. This time we decided to have Shawn try the program at a sister mission in San Jose where he would go through the steps of recovery.

Upon completion of the Program there, Shawn returned to the Mission’s Next-Step house to begin his transition as a productive member of society.

Shawn was able to start a small vent cleaning business, secure a home, find a home church, marry his girlfriend and begin a life here in Fairfield as the husband, father and man that he so desired the day he heard that he was going to be a daddy.
